Entrepreneur and Artiste

Mary Lou Cook once said “Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes and having fun”.

Artists pour their heart and soul into their art. They experience vulnerability every time they introduce their art to the world, and in doing so they create immense value for those who experience it.

As an entrepreneur, I often feel like an artist.  Every new endeavour and every new idea is a new canvas.

In my former corporate life, it often felt like I existed in black and white on someone else’s canvas.  Now I live in colour.  Full colour.  The lows are darker and deeper. The highs are brighter and more vibrant than I ever could have imagined. Every moment feels so much more real.

As the South Australian winner of the Telstra Business Women’s Startup Award, I introduced my Big Hairy Audacious Goal into the world.

By 2020 You Legal empowers its 1 million clients.

It’s a huge canvas, and its supposed to be. That is what makes it Hairy and Audacious.

Publishing my BHAG has been a big step for me as an artist and as an entrepreneur.

Finding the courage to be vulnerable by creating a whole new level of accountability to deliver my pièce de résistance on time has been empowering for me.

By taking risks, breaking the rules and experimenting with all of the colours across the whole canvas, I call forth parts of myself that I don’t yet realize exist.

Mary Lou Cook also said “Creativity saved my life”.

Entrepreneurship recharged mine.
